Girls day out in Dorset!

Tomorrow marks my first ever attempt at middle distance and what better challenge than to enter one the toughest races out there..the bustinskins! With a sea swim followed by a hilly bike course which is said to be not only tough but also over-distance and with a cross country half marathon to finish...sounds more like xterra racing but certainly sounds like fun! Mother Coleman has also been bullied into racing so once again it will be a team Coleman affair.

Solid start to season

The national duathlon championships were held at prestwold hall. Loughbrough. Conditions were blustery but dry. The first 5k run was led out by a rather over enthusiastic runner who entered T1 20 seconds ahead, but was quickly caught on the bike. Sophie was first out of T2 and really took the race on opening a gap very quickly and finishing strongly with almost a minute lead, in what turned out to be the third fastest run of the day overall.

10th at UK Cross Challenge Final and World XC Trials, Nottingham

It was a disappointing and frustrating race at the weekend with cramp in both quads considerably holding back performance to cross the line in 10th. An appeal has been made regarding selection for the World Cross Country team as the top 3 finishers (Partridge, Purdue and Avery) have all achieved immediate selection for the World XC Champs but the final 3 on the team are yet to be decided. The final team will be announced on the 10th March.

6th at National Cross Country Championships

Nationals were held this year at Parliment Hill where the U20 and U17 girls raced together over a muddy 5k course. After staying in contention with the leaders for the first half of the race Sophie finished in 6th position. She unfortunately fell on the final downhill section allowing two girls to overtake and gain just enough of a gap that was too large to close down over the final 400m. The result bodes well for the World XC qualifier that takes place in Nottingham at the Inter-counties in two weeks time. There will be 6 places up for grabs with the first 3 to cross the line awarded a certified place on the team.
