3k PB at track champs

Good run yesterday up in Crawley. Conditions were a bit breezy but the sun was shinning and there were probably birds singing somewhere! I had a good feeling about the race and was looking forward to seeing what I could manage over 3000m. I also had my brandy new spikes which weighed near to nothing to show off! I was aiming to run at 76s pace per 400m which equates to a finishing time around the 9.30 mark. I’d practised this in my last track session so I knew what running at this pace felt like.

At the start of the race Carolyn ran to the front and I sat in third position making sure I didn’t go off too quick. I actually ended up running the first half of the race slower than the second half! As I new what splits I needed to be running to achieve my target time I was aware I needed to pick up the pace and took the lead with aprox 1k to go. I felt pretty comfortable and with 600m to the finish I moved things up a gear to cross the line in 9.27. This was a PB and apparently a new U20 Sussex record!

So I got the time I was aiming for but finished feeling like I coulda scraped a few more seconds off. Howver it means i’ve left more room for improvement next time! Hopefully I’ll be able to give the 3k another crack sometime in the nearish future..maybe inter-counties or the U20 Champs in Bedford at the end of June.

Next up is the Eastgrinstead Triathlon where there looks to be some tough competiton with Tamar Coleman down on the start list so things could get interesting! OHHH wait NOW i Know what she was up to yesterday...trying to give me all those cakes...dirty tactics! Well if THATS how it’s going down then two can play that game!!

Got my first sea swim up later...the hot water better be working when I get home cos its gonna be chiiiiilly!
